Seen already from far away Wat Phra Bat Pupha Daeng looks like something out of a fairy tale with the many bright white stupphas decorating the mountain. The temple complex lays about 60km north of Lampang city on top of a large mountain.
To get to the temple you will need to buy a ticket with an admission fee of 200thb per person which in our opinion is a bit high for a temple located in the middle of nowhere. Even Thai people have to pay the full admission fee where they would normally go for free inside temple areas. A small pickup truck ride of around 5 minutes, already included in the admission fee, takes you almost to the top from where you have to walk another 15 minutes to reach the temple. The path to the temple is easy to walk even for beginners and not that steep.
The temple structures at the top, well they are not that impressive and look much better from afar, but the scenery is unique with several of the structures hanging half way over cliffs. Make sure to visit the the temple on a cloud-free day and the view is fantastic overlooking the wide green surroundings. There are several viewpoints and a central area where the main Buddha statue remains.
To get to Wat Phra Bat Pupha Daeng, drive northwards on road 1035 out of Lampang for about 60 kilometers.
